SCENIC CITY UMPIRE CAMP

Master your plate work and learn advanced 2 umpire system techniques taught by top elite umpires in the game. For umpires working Little League to Collegiate Baseball, this camp will take your plate work to the next level. The camp will be held January 7-9, 2022 at Fury Academy in Rossville, GA and conveniently located near Chattanooga, TN.

You will receive professional umpire training as well as topics that cover the following:

  • Building blocks. The foundation of solid plate work.

  • Laser Strike Zone Training. The Laser Strike Zone System deliver accuracy within 1/4 of an inch on pitches up to 105 mph. Practice calling "balls" and "strikes" using customized heights and calibrate pitch locations from mental-to-physical.

  • Calling card: Make the strike 3 mechanic yours.

  • Catcher & Umpire Relationships w/Special Guests.

  • Strike Zone Principles.

  • Working the big game.

  • The Look. How to look your best when stepping on the field.

  • Tools of the Trade: Properly fit equipment to keep you safe.

  • Round table discussions w/Special Guests.

  • Laser Strike Zone Training. 

  • Individual cage work w/instruction and video analysis from MiLB and NCAA Umpires.​​

  • Receive fundamental and advanced individual/group instruction on the 2 umpire system for plate and base umpires. (Part of the responsibilities as a participant include fielding, running, and acting as a player in simulated game situations. Additionally, if you have a medical condition that prevents you from participating, please provide this in advance from your personal/family doctor.)

  • Develop methods for handling advanced situations at the high school, collegiate, and professional level.

  • Examine and apply OBR, NCAA, and NFHS Rules as well as interpretations.

  • Analyze the philosophy towards high school and collegiate umpiring; including attitude, appearance and advancement. 

What to Bring

  • Black/Blue Jersey's, plate & base pants, hat, jacket (optional).

  • Chest protector, leg guards, mask, protective cup, ball bag(s), indicator, plate brush.

  • Baseball Glove.

  • Cell Phone or Tablet with video recording capabilities, notepad, pen/pencil.

  • OBR Rule book, NCAA Rule book, CCA Manual (optional items).

Our host lodging partner for the 2022 Plate Work Advanced Clinic is the Hampton Inn by Hilton Chattanooga East Ridge, conveniently located off I-75. This rate is only guaranteed until (December 7, 2022). Umpires typically room with another umpire to split the cost of the room, which makes the above double occupancy rate very affordable.
